Dr. Gail Zank is an Associate Professor of Marketing in the McCoy College of Business at Texas State University. She holds a BS from Marquette University and an MBA and Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. She has taught at Texas A&M University, Eastern Connecticut State University, and University of Central Florida prior to coming to Texas State in 2001.
Current Research Interests
Supply chain management and social marketing issues including anti-smoking advertising aimed at adolescents and college students; obesity in children as related to marketing/advertising, and green marketing.
Recent Research and Publication Activities
Professor Zank has published in the Journal of Travel Research, International Journal of Management and Enterprise Development, SAM Advanced Management Journal, Production and Inventory Management Journal, Competitiveness Review, Review of the Electronic and Industrial Distribution Industries, and College Student Journal, as well as conference proceedings, such as, the American Academy of Advertising, Marketing and Public Policy, Society for Marketing Advances, Decision Sciences Institute and Society for the Advancement of Management. She has received several Texas State and College of Business Research Enhancement Grants. Zank has also been an investigator on numerous external research grants sponsored by industry trade associations. These grants focused on issues facing the industrial distribution industry.
Professional Service Activities
Dr. Zank serves as a member of the American Marketing Association Collegiate Council. She has served on the APICS National Curriculum Review Committee. She serves on many committees at the department, school, university and professional level. Dr. Zank is an ad hoc reviewer for several journals and numerous conferences within her field. She has also participated as a track chair and discussant for many different conferences. Dr. Zank has also presented many executive development workshops on topics including Leading the Sales Team, Trends in Distribution, Customer Focused Marketing and Using Continuous Improvement Tools.
Dr. Zank has been an advisor to student groups such as American Marketing Association, PAID (Professional Association for Industrial Distribution) and Pi Sigma Epsilon (national business fraternity) her entire academic career. The groups she has advised have won many awards in student competitions. Dr. Zank received the Hugh G. Wales Award (Outstanding Faculty Advisor) from the American Marketing Association. She also was recognized as Outstanding Faculty Advisor in the Nation by Pi Sigma Epsilon.
Dr. Zank teaches both graduate and undergraduate classes. These classes include Marketing Research, Principles of Marketing, Global Marketing and the Value Chain, and the American Marketing Association (AMA) Student Case Competition at the undergraduate level. Texas State AMA Case competition teams under her guidance have advanced to the finals each of three years that they have participated, placing second two times.
Dr. Zank received the McCoy College of Business Teaching Excellence Award in 2006. She received the Texas State Foundations of Excellence Award in 2005.
