Faculty
The Marketing Department has a tradition of hiring student-oriented faculty who are devoted to teaching, the pursuit of marketing knowledge, and service to professional associations. We take pride in faculty contributions and commitment to excellence in all endeavors.
* Dr. Vishag Badrinarayanan recently joined the Marketing Department as an Assistant Professor. He earned a Ph.D. from Texas Tech University in May 2006. He received an M.B.A. from the Institute for Technology and Management in Chennai, India, and a B.S. from Loyola College in Chennai, India.
* Dr. Enrique Becerra recently joined the Marketing Department as an Assistant Professor. He earned a Ph.D. from Florida Atlantic University in May 2006. He received an M.B.A. from Florida State University and a B.S. from Purdue University.
* Dr. Raymond Fisk recently joined Texas State as Professor and Chair of the Department of Marketing. Before joining Texas State, Professor Fisk taught at the University of New Orleans, Oklahoma State University and the University of Central Florida (Orlando). He has also taught internationally at Klagenfurt University, Austria as a Fulbright Scholar; the University of Porto, Portugal; University College Dublin, Ireland; the Swedish School of Economics, Helsinki, Finland; the Universidad Diego Portales, Santiago, Chile; the Universidade do Algarve, Faro, Portugal; and the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), Monterrey, Mexico. Dr. Fisk received the Career Contributions to the Services Discipline Award from the American Marketing Association Services Marketing Special Interest Group in 2005.
* Dr. Ravi Jillapalli is an Assistant Professor who comes to Texas State from Texas Tech University, where he received his MBA, MS and Ph.D. Dr. Jillapalli teaches Principles of Marketing and Consumer Behavior. * Dr. Elyria Kemp is an Assistant Professor who comes to Texas State from the University of Arkansas, where she received her Ph.D. Dr. Kemp received a BS from Bradley University and an MBA from the University of New Orleans. Dr. Kemp teaches Principles of Marketing. * Dr. Chinna Natesan developed and taught one of the first undergraduate Electronic Commerce courses in the country. He has taken this early expertise and refined it for the department's current course offering in Internet Marketing. Dr. Natesan's research interests relate to issues that impact the growth of online businesses, including privacy, security, information retrieval, and electronic transactions. * Dr. Jeremy Sierra recently came to Texas State as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Marketing. Before coming to Texas State, Dr. Sierra was an Assistant Professor at Northern Arizona University, W.A. Franke College of Business.
* Dr. Denise Smart is the Dean of the McCoy College of Business Administration and has served national marketing associations in several capacities. She is President of the Academic Council of the American Marketing Association and Past President of the Society for Marketing Advances. She was recognized as the 2002 Prentice Hall Marketing Educator of the Year Award for the Federation of Business Disciplines.
* Dr. Karen Smith's research agenda focuses on the various marketing factors that affect the smoking behavior of college students, teens, and adolescents. This topic is important to a number of constituents, including public policy makers, tobacco manufacturers, parents, schools, health care officials and others. Dr. Smith is working with several other faculty members on grant proposals related to anti-smoking campaigns.
* Dr. Mary Ann Stutts is the recipient of many honors, including Texas States Presidential Excellence Award in Teaching and the Alumni Association's Teaching Award of Honor. Dr. Stutts has advised Texas State's American Advertising Federation student team for many years and has one of the best competitive records of any advisor in the country. She was Chair of the Building Committee that helped create plans for the College of Business Administration's new building.
* Dr. Taewon Suh recently joined the Marketing Department as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Suh (pronounced "saw") has earned a Ph.D. in Communications (in Korea) and has recently completed his second Ph.D. in Marketing and International Business from Saint Louis University.
* Dr. Ruth Taylor, Professor of Marketing, was honored by the Texas Secretary of State's office with a Service Award (2002); completed a faculty internship with the Texas Department of Economic Development (2001); and developed a training program where students could earn a U.S. Department of Commerce certificate, a program for which she received the 2005 National Program Excellence Award given by NASBITE International, a professional organization for the global business community. Since 2002, Dr. Taylor has continuously worked with two universities in Lima, Peru on trade-related research and twice served as a Fulbright Senior Specialist Professor: Universidad de Lima (Use of U.S. Government Resources for Market Analysis, 2006, Lima); and Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (Brand Management, 2008, Lima) where she received UNMSM's designation of International Honorary Professor. Dr. Taylor serves as regional director for the Marketing Education Association, a national organization of collegiate marketing educators.
* Mrs. Vicki West's leadership as advisor to the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team has resulted in national awards, student placement in top companies, investments in the community, and strong ties to the business community. Mrs. West is spearheading the effort to take Texas State students to the annual National Collegiate Sales Competition, where she believes Texas State can take top honors in a few short years. Mrs. West is a recipient of Texas State's Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching.
* Dr. Gail Zank's research program primarily focuses on the effects of technology, societal issues, and organizational capabilities on relationships in the supply chain. Dr. Zank has consulted with a number of industry leaders to improve competitiveness in the supply chain. She is also the recipient of numerous research grants that support this important aspect of marketing and business inquiry and practice. Dr. Zank advises our American Marketing Association student chapter and was named Texas State's "Most Outstanding Faculty Advisor" in 2003 and in 2004.
