MacArthur 100 & Change Video Pitch

(90 seconds)

Hello, I’m Amanda Perez and I’m a graduate student here at Texas State University.

During the turbulent 1960s, President Lyndon Johnson, a Texas State graduate, sought to create a Great Society that eliminated poverty and racial injustice. As Johnson said: “Our society will not be great until every young mind is set free to scan the farthest reaches of thought and imagination.”

Here at Texas State, we are renewing the quest for a “Great Society” by creating the Transformative Service Project, an education, research, and design platform to develop human service systems that are innovative, honorable, and just.

We know changing thinking is hard and improving human well-being is a problem too big for anyone to solve alone. Fortunately, there are many people around the world who share our passion. So let’s do this together.

First, we will create a platform to empower teams focused on improving human well-being.

Second, we will encourage numerous collaborative projects built upon transformative service thinking.

Third, we will spread the logic of serving each other.

Our Transformative Service Project will elevate human thinking and behavior to that of a Great Society.
