Dr. Smith earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics and a Master of Science in Economics from Baylor University and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Marketing from the University of Texas-Austin. Before joining Texas State, Professor Smith worked in banking for eight years. She has been a faculty member at Texas State since 1993.
Current Research Interests:
Social marketing, particularly the areas of social smoking behavior, anti-smoking advertising, healthy eating, green marketing and consumer use of social media.
Research and Publication Activities:
Dr. Smith’s research has been published in The Journal of Consumer Affairs, Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, Journal of Global Marketing, Journal of Marketing Education, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and Journal of Consumer Research. She also has numerous conference presentations and published proceedings, such as the American Marketing Association, American Academy of Advertising, Marketing and Public Policy, Society for Consumer Psychology, and Association for Consumer Research. In addition, Dr. Smith has been awarded numerous Texas State and College of Business Research Enhancement Grants and was a partner with the Texas Dare Institute in a Texas Cancer Council grant.
Professional Service Activities:
Dr. Smith has been a co-advisor of the student chapter of the American Marketing Association at Texas State. She assists student groups and faculty members with web development and statistical analysis. She also serves as ad hoc reviewer for a number of journals and conferences. She is chair of the McCoy College of Business Administration Undergraduate Scholarship Committee.
Dr. Smith currently teaches Consumer Behavior and Social Marketing. She has previously taught Introductory Marketing, Current Developments in Marketing, and Marketing Research at the graduate level. Recently, she was named one of the Top 10 Texas State Distinguished Educators by the Texas State Student Foundation.
