Prior to joining the marketing faculty at Texas State, Dr. Wilson taught at Hofstra University in New York, where he lead both of the marketing and advertising case competition teams helping each to receive national recognition. He received his B.S. in Business Administration and Advertising from the University of Akron in Ohio, an M.B.A. in Business Administration from Washington University in St. Louis, and a Ph.D. in Marketing and International Business from Saint Louis University.
Before becoming a professor, Dr. Wilson worked in the fields of marketing and international business for 12 years as a senior product manager for AT&T, Vodafone Group, and TelePacific Communications. While working for Vodafone, Dr. Wilson helped start a new wireless venture in Hungary and consequently spent one year working in Budapest as a senior international product manager.

Research and Publication Activities
Dr. Wilson has more than 15 publications in leading marketing and advertising journals, including Journal of Advertising, International Journal of Advertising, Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Current Issues and Research in Advertising, Psychology & Marketing, Journal of Marketing Communications, Journal of Strategic Marketing, Journal of International Marketing, International Marketing Review, Journal of International Consumer Marketing, and Thunderbird International Business Review. He also has a book chapter in Advertising Theory, where he presents an organizing framework for non-traditional advertising.
Dr. Wilson is involved in a $2.2 million cross-discipline National Science Foundation research grant to raise awareness of and change attitudes about climate change among Boston’s subway riders. In this project, Dr. Wilson assists in the design, development, and evaluation of the advertising used to accomplish the project’s goals.
Professional Service Activities
Dr. Wilson is a member of the American Advertising Federation (AAF), where he is the Texas State faculty advisor for the National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) and sits on the organization’s National Education Executive Committee, which supports and provides direction to AAF’s more than 200 college chapters. Dr. Wilson is also a current member of the American Advertising Association and past member of the American Marketing Association (AMA), where he served on AMA’s Collegiate Chapter Council in addition to being a faculty advisor for six years at Hofstra University’s local chapter.
Dr. Wilson teaches Promotional Strategy and the American Advertising Federation’s (AAF) National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) course.
